WELCOME TO DAR ES SALAAM

Habari! You’re finally here!  We’ll whisk you away from Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) after your arrival into the city and take you to your accommodation. After you get settled into your new digs, we’ll introduce you to the rest of your crew for the week; an intimate group of individuals from all over the world ready to experience Tanzania’s culture and history. As a group, we’ll all head to our welcome dinner and kick off our new journey together.


7:00-9:00pm Check in, welcome dinner + Nightlife in Dar

Dar es Salaam, a major city and commercial port on Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast, grew from a fishing village. It is the most populous city in Tanzania and the fifth most populous in Africa. In 2020, the population was estimated to be 6.4 million.

THE REAL DAR ES SALAAM TOUR! The Urban Exploration

The best way to get to know a destination is by gaining a bit of its history. Today, we’ll be taking you on a tour that gives you a deep dive into Dar Es Salaam’s roots. We’ll immediately immerse ourselves in the local culture by trekking through the city to visit historical landmarks, sampling traditional foods, learning about the people, visiting the world famous Kariakoo market, and getting our first taste of Tanzanian hospitality with a Swahili lunch off the beaten path with a famous local chef.

12:30-5:00pm City Tour; Curio Shopping, Village museum,

3:00pm-5:00pm Traditional Dancing experience

5:30pm-7:00pm Swahili late lunch w/ a Famous Chef - off the beaten path.

Scenic Village Road Trip to the National Park

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and head on a road trip to Nyerere National Park (5.5hours drive) to Southern Tanzania. Arrive to checkin + lunch, relax and then head out for a Sunset boat cruise, Hippos and bird watching as a local guide shares about the tales of the river.

Dress code: Comfortable outing clothes - ex: safari gear, jeans, skirt + Sneakers

Meals included: Breakfast + Lunch on the go, Dinner

Safari Adventure & Cultural Experience with the Maasai

Early morning Bush walking tour with a Bushman - On this walking tour, the Bushman will share tales of survival in bush, herbal medicines, rituals by the oldest tree of life, the Baobab tree. Then return for a Bush breakfast


9:00am-2:00pm Head out for a Safari Game drive + picnic lunch

3:00pm-5:00pm Visit Maasai Tribe to discover their culture.

Meals Included: Breakfast + Picnic lunch


Accommodation: Selous Kinga Lodge.

Dress code: Attire color is natural, neutral, earth tones. Comfortable outing clothes - ex: safari gear, jeans, skirt + Sneakers.

DAY 5: MON AUG 18TH

WELCOME TO ZANZIBAR

We’ll be packing our bags and changing locations as we head to Zanzibar. Our first stop is Stone Town, where' we’ll relax and get familiar with the city. Today is the perfect opportunity to discover some of the things that make the city so great. Get to know your new travel companions, check out that cool spot your friends back home recommended, stop by the local markets or hang out poolside at our lush accommodations. 


Today, we'll hit the streets of Stone Town for a walking tour of the old city, visiting the local markets and learning why the city is of prominent historical and artistic importance in East Africa, so much so, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the evening, we’ll enjoy a sunset happy hour. We’ll enjoy dinner at one of the best seafood restaurants in Zanzibar.

10:00am-3:00pm Road trip to Dar es Salaam Airport

6:00pm-6:40pm Flight to Zanzibar, Arrive + transfer to check in Maru Maru Hotel. Rest the evening + 8pm dinner at hotel rooftop restaurant.

DAY 6: TUE AUG 19TH

Historical Journey & Ancestral Tribute Boat Cruise

Today, we'll hit the streets of Stone Town for a walking tour of the old city, visiting the local markets and learning why the city is of prominent historical and artistic importance in East Africa, so much so, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the evening, we’ll enjoy a sunset happy hour. We’ll enjoy dinner at one of the best seafood restaurants in Zanzibar. 


8:00am-10:00am- Breakfast at the hotel

11:00am-1:00pm Stone Town Historical Walking Tour (Slave+ Local Market Tour)

1:00pm-4:00pm: Free time: Try Zanzibari local Lunch + Shopping, spa or enjoy the restaurant by the beach.

4:30pm - 6:45pm Ancestral Tribute Boat Cruise (Dress code: All white) 

7:30pm - 9:00pm- Dinner outing + nightlife

Dress Code: Dress modest- a long skirt or loose-fitting pants are also good in the heat and will protect you from the sun. You can wear loose and below the knee, cover shoulders and if you can, elbows. Women - Take some loose covering, or buy a scarf to cover head and shoulders if in doubt.

DAY 7: WED AUG 20TH

SPICE IT UP! Zanzibar Spice tour & Culinary Experience

Now that we’re settled in Zanzibar, we’ll make a visit to one of the many shambas (spice farms) and a local village to learn the history and why the nickname “Spice Island” is well-deserved. 


10:00am -12:00pm Spice tour and Culinary Class. The class entails making swahili food with a local chef using local ingredients. It is hands-on participatory class each student will be involved in preparation and cooking.


12:00pm-2:00pm Cooking: Pilau (spice rice) is a festive dish, well-known and much loved in the Zanzibar archipelago. In this workshop, you will learn to prepare it, using many of Zanzibar’s fresh and aromatic spices – and of course you will get to eat it afterwards. You’ll take home the recipe and can then treat your friends and family to this beautiful and fragrant dish.


Lunch is served after class. 


3:00pm Return for a night over at Maru Maru Hotel in Stone town + Free time. 

DAY 8: THU AUG 21ST

Beachside Restoration & Reflective Journaling

After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel in Stone Town and be whisked away to an oasis of rejuvenation with a stay in our island paradise. Arrive to check in + free evening. 


REFRESH, REFLECT, RELAX

The stunning pool offer a rejuvenation for the mind, body and soul. Take a swim in the pool or simply relax in the calm, restorative waters of the spa.


For lunch, Feel free to venture out on the long stretch of white sandy beach with blue sea to find a restaurant or experience of your choice. Sit back and be served, whenever you like – the only schedule we’re on is yours.

Inspiring Workshop, Free beach time & Farewell Celebration

Bring your sunscreen because today is all about the beach! Soothe yourself in the crystal clear waters and experience the local vibes of some of Africa’s most beautiful coastlines. Today is your day to do as you please at the beach.


Optional:  3:00pm-5:00pm Visit the famous Kuza Cave (an ancient limestone jungle cave with crystal clear turquoise fresh water.) for a swimming cleansing workshop 


In the evening, we'll come together one last time for a celebratory farewell dinner. Let our last meal together as a travel crew be a time to reflect on the unforgettable week Tanzania gave you, and for the memorable experience you gave yourself.
